Plainsman’s Choice 2022 Best Female Athlete: Suni Lee

The Plainsman’s Choice votes have come in and freshman gymnast Suni Lee has been named Best Female Athlete.

Lee, who came to Auburn after a trip to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and an appearance on Dancing with the Stars, won gold, silver and bronze medals for the United States. With her gold medal in the all-around, Lee becomes the fifth consecutive American gymnast to win this award.

Lee has made waves for Auburn in her short tenure on campus. In addition to amassing four perfect 10.0s, Lee was named a first-team All-American in the all-around, bars and beam and earned second-team All-American honors on floor. She was named to the All-SEC Team, All-Freshman Team for the conference and was named SEC Freshman of the Year and SEC Parallel Bars Champion.

Lee ranks first nationally on uneven bars and first on balance beam with Ragan Smith, No. 1 of Oklahoma. She also ranks second in the all-around behind Olympic teammate and fellow Oregon State fellow Jade Carey.

Lee and the rest of the Auburn team were scheduled to attend the NCAA Championships this past weekend, April 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The team semi-finals took place in two sessions, with Auburn in the second semi-final on Thursday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Auburn competed with Florida, Michigan and Missouri. The top two teams from each semi-final will go head-to-head in the Championship Finals on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00pm ET. The semifinals were broadcast on ESPN 2 and the finals on ABC.
